SONA by Philippine President
The recent State of the Nation's Address by the Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has been anything but less controversial and less watched all over the country compared to previous years. I think that the main reason that can appoint to the lesser ratings could be attributed to the Filipino's being tired already of being led by a corrupt and inefficient leader together with her inaccurate promises. Yes, you guessed it also, this SONA was just as similiar with all the other SONA she made in recent years. It all talks about the education and healthcare as well as the transportation being prioritized. Creating more jobs are also the main objective for this government in order to perhaps rise the economic status of this country and pull it above the poverty level. But sad to say, they are no where near the projected 10 million jobs they have predicted. It would probably take more than 5 years to reach that plateau and it indeed saddens me because I am already part of this country. Presidents' in this country are keen of failed promises and they boast something that they didn't even planned to do. Something like the on and on advertisement the government are making about the increase of the GDP of the country. Perhaps in that note yeah they have succeeded but it is not something attributed solely on the government, but it is more so attributed to the success of the OFW's that put their sweat and blood to support their family and bring pride to their country. The government simply "says" that they care, but looking at the difficulties and trials that is experienced by the OFWs, the considered heroes of the country, probably it is also another failure of the government. Statistics that the GDP has gone up does not mean that the Filipinos are living a better life. According to the news, there are 3 million people more belonging to the poor. That alone is significant, but more so the problem is not only internally. It's externally, we can hear that the Philippine government is already as one of the most corrupt government in the world. Its indeed a significant statement but it is indeed true. The government made all the bad things happen to this country. It may be a good sign that 2010 is near and another president is coming. Perhaps someone who has an Obama effect that can bring hope to the country. But it could also be someone who might be more corrupt and inefficient than the present president. But recent elections suggest the latter. The corruption, the selfishness, and the failed promises, will indeed rise in all occasion.
