Victory by DLSU

Due to the absence of internet service in my home (seen in my previous blogs), I might be posting blogs in bunches. On Sunday something majestic happened - probably for us lasallians. The DLSU green archers finally beat a competitive team in the UAAP men's basketball league. They were in a 3 game winning streak by beating Adamson, UP, and NU which are probably the worst teams in the league for a long time now. This winning streak did not prove anything yet for this green archer team who are having the youngest and most inexperienced set of players since the coming of the prodigal coach Franz Pumaren. They had a bunch of energetic guys who can shoot the ball and drive, but none who can take over a game on his own. The archers are known of having those kind of players the casio's, the cortez's, the cardona's, and the yeo's. This lack of star power probably makes the DLSU team vulnerable to talented teams that have go to guys in the league right now. But all of these doubts were erased when the team beat a very strong team which had two early MVP caliber players. Although DLSU was demolished early on, their bench guys and rookies led the way through their energy and strong nose defense which led to the comeback and eventually the victory. Upon watching the game, I really couldn't blame any single person for the growling tigers because they were good collectively early on but bad as a team again late in the game. Fatigue probably had hurt them the most because they relied a lot on their star players to carry their team as opposed to the green archers who used a combination of guys who were tired and fresh. Eventually it all came to one person - Barua. This guy who has not hit the first 14 three points in this year hit the eventual bucket that would lead them to overtime and to victory. Big buckets after big buckets which eventually led them to emerge victorious in a grueling double overtime game. The game exposed one thing other than players who struggle can hit shot, the green archers may not be as talented than the rest of the top teams in the UAAP this season but, they might have the greatest heart of all. This year, it may not be their time to win it all, but it sure says a lot about what this team or more so, the school is made of. As I have said early on, it's good to be a Lasallian right now.
