Just recently, something majestic happened in the streets of Manila. The Filipino people celebrated, rejoiced, and mourned at the same time on the death of former President Corazon "Cory" Aquino. She was probably someone who's regarded as a hero to her nation, and perhaps in the world we have today, she might be the only true hero that we can remember in recent history of this country. True, a lot of people died during her reign (according to our history professor) and she made some bad decisions during her time as president. But it got me thinking, who didn't? One thing I believe in is that she, however, made a lot of grounds for her mistakes. She was a loving public figure or an icon who was beloved by the people regardless of wealth, background, or age. She was charismatic in her own way, same with her late husband. She epitomized the nationalistic and Christian values. She was a proud mother and was so dearly loved by her family members. She made a lot of people wear yellow without force. Yet, one thing that stand outs in her is her ability to understand the people, feel the people, and love the people. I may not be her biggest follower or for that matter, I may not even know anything significant about what she have done during and after her presidency. But how the people viewed and celebrated her ascending to heaven made a huge impact on me and it made me realize that this person indeed is someone who has done something miraculous to the people. She gave hope to the people and made them feel that the head of the nation cared for the ordinary people. Most importantly, I believe that she has touched so many lives with whatever she might have done through out her life and there is nothing else that is more important for a person to do just that. I truly am sorry that I wasn't participative during the rallies, nor did I pay respect to her passing in the parade but hopefully this blog will tell that all the majestic things people did for her was all deserved by a person who made a difference.
